Palo connects people to essential information, resources and safety by offering free wifi, information on nearby attractions, restaurants, retail and events, community groups, public service announcements, maps and way finding, emergency alerts, meeting points and taxi beacons.
1. Long Distance
Communication + network
Vertical axis defines the hardware as a landmark. It represents long distance connection to the wireless network and the city's infrastructure.
2. Medium Distance
Messaging + Advertising
Second axis perpendicular to the first represent the medium distance connection to the environment with messaging and advertising.
3. Short Distance
Messaging + Interface
Third axis perpendicular to the second axis represent short distance connection to the pedestrians with messaging and interface.
Personal Zone
A safe personal zone is achieved for the user, by orienting the main screen to the opposite side of the traffic.
Emergency Button
The emergency button is enclosed by a flush protective cover. When the cover is lifted and the button is pressed, local microphone and speaker are activated. When let go, the cover falls back to the closed position.
Emergency Messaging
In emergency situations, main screens and lights turn off to save power of the device, and display warning signs or relevant news to help the community informed.
Charging Pad
Wireless charging is available on both front and back side. The charging locations are identified by the icons, while risers keep handsets from sliding off the charging surface.
Light, Mic, Speakers
An LED lighting panel and array microphones are directly above the interactive display. The display's glass surface functions as a vibration speaker.
Solar Panels
Solar panels on either side of the advertising displays trickle charge separate battery in the device to provide power for the charging pods and LED ticker in case of power outage.
Map + Serviceability
Back panel with dye sublimation shows local map to help pedestrians with way finding.
The perforated frame on the back acts as vent, and the entire back panel can be removed to access components and for servicing necessary parts.
